I have never read such thing. This had never even come to my mind before reading this in my English class. How could this possibly be? how can we think this way?
I will give you a brief short summary of what this article "going for the look" really is about. In a few simple words this is pretty much about companies and big sale stores hiring good looking people and good looking people only. That's all I have to say about this article and to let you know what is areally about, and let me tell you that this makes me sad, not only for the way they think but also for the racisism they perform as well. Big companies just like Abercrombie & Fitch(which appears on "going for the look" article) do this kind of things. They don't care if their people have any working skills, they don't care how lame and stupid they can be, they only care about their look. Only North American people are hired in this store, no Mexican, no Assian, and no African American, and of course no fat people, and none looking good people. This also means I will not get a job at any store! I am not a good looking person and I am not North American. Why do I use the term "North American"? I use this term because it really makes no sense to me sayin "White people", I have white skin, I have colored eyes and I have really light hair color, having white skin makes me a white person, doesn't it?. Using the term "white people"to me is more like saying "we are superior". I believe that hiring only people of a certain look is racist. I mean, it's not our foult for having a different skin color, not our fault for not decending from anyone originally of the U.S and of course for been born at the U.S, not our fault for being too short, not our fault for being fat, not our choice to be born this way and therefore not deserve to be treated this way, to be treated different. As every day passes this spreads more and more, unfortunately our kids and the kids to come will be raised believing this is actually real, this is not something I have planed to teach my kids to teach their kids. There is no way we can stop this from happenig, but we can certantly change ways of thinking and certainly pass this good thinking over generations to help stop spreading this thoughts, and of course to start slowing it down from spreading.
Sincerly:
A teenager that wants to see the wolrd in a different way, that wants to see it change.
I certainly agree with what you were saying how no one can choose the way they were born and how they look. Also to have our children be raised in a society that is so into their looks is disturbing. I too hope that we can change the way they market brands.
